Rouleur Derby Report No. 63

Thursday, August 16, 2012

In this Rouleur Derby Report:

1. The Vuelta

2. The rest of the season

1. The Vuelta

This Saturday is already the Vuelta? What the what?

Hard to say what the storylines will be with this, our final Grand Tour of 2012, other than to find out how well Alberto Contador is riding and whether a doping suspension is a good tapering plan.

And then there's Chris Froome: Can he carry Sky on his own shoulders, or will he still be tuckered out from dragging Bradley Wiggins all over France?

But the most important question of all is, as usual, who will win. Picking a grand tour winner carries a 25 percent bonus, and there is $50 at stake for the best performer at the tour.

The race starts Saturday, so betting will close at Midnight Chicago time on Friday night.

Time is running out to cut into the sizable lead for the overall champion and the end-of-season $285 grand prize. There's no prize for 2nd place, so as we enter the "Final Jeopardy!" phase of the game, don't be surprised to see some wild betting as people go for broke -- and usually end up there.

In addition to the Vuelta there is Monday's USA Pro Challenge, and beyond that of course we'll have the world championships, which will close our season.

Have fun, play well, tell a friend,
