1. LET'S GO!

The second season of Rouleur Derby is officially under way.

Betting quietly opened on Saturday, and so far things appear to be working properly. There will be some extra brown sugar in my programming staff's gruel this week.

2. OPENING WEEKEND IN BELGIUM

Enough of this racing in the desert. This weekend cycling returns to Flanders, where God intended it and the devil improves it. Fingers are crossed for harsh conditions and bootleg livestreams. Indeed, nothing makes my heart flutter on a Saturday morning like the guttural dulcetness of Flemish commentary.

My cadre of bookies are still wringing the sand from their eyes, so we'll start slowly by opening book on just three propositions for this weekend's races.

There will be one pick-the-winner each for Saturday's Het Nieuwsblad and for Sunday's Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne. For the sake of variety, Saturday asks you to predict the individual rider -- including the dreaded "Other" option, to cover the dark horses -- while Sunday asks you to predict the winning team.

In addition, there is a chance to predict how many of the races will be won by Belgian riders: none, one or two.

Finally there are two longer-term propositions, both the product of player suggestions. One asks you to predict whether Alberto Contador will indeed escape justice and start the Tour de France. It has a March 5 deadline. The final proposition asks you to predict how many Italians will hit the podium at Milan-Sanremo.

Expect even more proposition as betting becomes more active and Rouleur Derby attracts more players.

3. INFLATION REMINDER

Returning players will note that everything is 10 times bigger this year. Players start with 1,000 points, and the minimum wager is 1 point. I expect this will make a 10-point wager the bread and butter of Rouleur Derby. Likewise, 1-point bets in 2011 will have the same impact as the 0.1-point bets that were popular with weasels and vultures in 2010.

4. FACEBOOK BONUS

There's still time to be among the first 100 people to "like" Rouleur Derby on Facebook and get a 50-point bonus: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Rouleur-Derby/196351073715789.

Also, you can now "recommend" individual propositions. There is a link at the bottom of each betting page, and the link also pops up after you place a bet. This is an excellent way to share your Rouleur Derby excitement with all your besties.

Have fun, play well, tell a friend,

Luke
